“King of the Wing” is the official title given to a chicken with the longest wingspan, raising its wings and touching its body to the ground. It is referenced in various contexts, such as children’s stories, speeches, and rituals. The shape was also used as an emblem on prehistoric pottery in Cyprus, dating back approximately 6500 years.
Charles kim alpine of the United States won the title for life in 2008 with a wingspan of 2.5 meters, he was referred to as “Celeb-chicken” and was given the name by his owner. The same year, on September 7th, Kim passed away. He died of natural causes.
When Charles alpine raised his wings, the media was given the title of “King of the Wing” at that time. Charles was a white chicken with black tips on his feathers. Charles won the title thrice in 2007 and 2008. He was admired as a celebrity in Singapore and Malaysia when he raised his wings there. Charles had even been invited to perform at some events, such as the “Asian Celebrity Chicken Festival,” held in Malaysia and Singapore in 2008. Still, just before he went to the event, his owner died.
In 2009 Charles’s owner returned to Singapore and requested a new King of the Wing contest be planned for him. A contest was scheduled to be held in Singapore on August 8, 2009.
However, Charles did not attend the event and missed his title of King of the Wing.
In 2005, a white fowl with black tips on its feathers and wings named “Queen” was crowned as the most extended winged chicken in the world with a wing span of 1.13 meters.
According to news reports from Taiwan in 2003, the chicken that received King of Chicken was named “Zhong Yu.” It is said that it came from Tainan City of Taiwan ROC’s auction house. The animal had a wingspan of 1.55 meters and a weight of 3.5 kg at home; in a special exhibition in China, its wingspan was measured to be 2.41 meters, and its weight was 5 kg. When Zhong Yu won the title of King of Chicken, he was awarded a $10 gold coin as an honorarium by the city government and local merchants in Taiwan.
Another chicken is “Junie” from Yilan County, Taiwan. It has a wingspan of 1.3 meters and weighs 3 kg at home, but it can stretch its wings to those 2 meters during the exhibition in China after being flown there for that purpose.
“Junie” is the only known animal with a wingspan greater than 1.5 meters that have not been selectively bred.
It was named “Juan Zi”, also known as “John Zhao”, after the owner gave it to be auctioned at the Central Culture Bureau in Taipei. The owner said he did not want to sell it but just wanted to get rid of it.
