In virtually all of Latin America, Christmas (Navidad) is celebrated over a two month period, beginning in mid-December and continuing well into January: Christmas, New Year and Three Kings Day (January 6th).
During the Christmas season, many traditional customs were observed, such as offering gifts to neighbors (Aguinaldos), singing songs at neighbors’ homes (Parrandas), singing songs (Villancicos), offering large meals at ones home, along with many other communal traditions.
In its 19th year, the “Jolgorio Navideño” (a traditional family Christmas party) was created to rescue the cultural traditions associated with the Christmas season all over Latin America.
In Massachusetts, the “Jolgorio Navideño” developed into an important annual event and community catalyst, that today supports several educational and cultural programs aimed at Latino youth.
An annual gala event, the “Jolgorio Navideño” represents one of the many unique cultural customs that our organization leverages to promote our educational programs and to raise funds for all of our projects throughout the year.
